FAQ & Fees

FAQ

Where can I see you?

I offer therapy services on Monday evenings, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Assessments are available on Wednesdays. Some assessments can be provided online.

Email admin@wattlepsychology.com.au to book in for therapy appointments, or call (07) 2800 7400 to enquire about availability.

Do you see multiple members of the same family for therapy?

There is a risk that conflicts can arise if a psychologist supports two closely related people in therapy. To prevent conflicts from occurring, Individual psychologists generally see only one family member per family, however feel free to reach out and ask for recommendations for other therapists.

Referrals and rebates

People can see me without a referral. However, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per year if you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or psychiatrist. They can send this to me via email or fax.

The price of individual therapy sessions will be $215, and the medicare rebate is increasing to $96.65. This means that the out of pocket cost will be $118.35.

Some private health insurance extra plans provide a rebate on psychology sessions – please check with your insurer. Please note that you cannot claim a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate for the same session.

I also see clients who are self-managed or plan-managed through NDIS at the current rate for NDIS.

Cancellation and missed session policy

Why do you we have a cancellation policy?

Wattle Psychology has a cancellation fee policy. As each appointment is an hour long, we can only see a limited number of people each day. A couple of short-notice cancellations or reschedules means that other clients waiting on our cancellation list may miss out on an appointment and an hour is lost.Wattle Psychology is a small private practice. We receive no public funding, so our sole source of income is the fees paid per session attended by a client. If a client does not attend an appointment, the practice incurs a loss. However, the practice costs (e.g. rent and admin) do not vary and must still be covered.

We respect everyone’s right to make the decision that best suits them and encourage you to research similar policies at other clinics. We do know that most services function in a similar way, for similar reasons.

Please note:

(a) Cancellations less than 24 hours before the time of your appointment incur a 50% cancellation fee and $107.50 will be charged.

(b) Cancellations less than 48 hours before the time of your appointment incur a $50 cancellation fee.

(c) Failure to attend an appointment without providing prior notice incurs a 100% cancellation fee. Unfortunately, no Medicare rebates apply for missed appointments.

(d) We will send you an SMS in the days prior to your appointment.  Our psychologist will often start preparing for your session at this time. Please call or email to cancel or reschedule.

(e) If a medical certificate can be provided within 48 hours after the missed appointment, which demonstrates your inability to attend due to ill health, we may, in our sole discretion, agree to waive all or part of your cancellation fee.

I suspect I have ADHD or Autism, where should I start?

If you suspect you have ADHD or your child has ADHD, an option you could consider is booking in directly to see a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician (with a GP referral), especially if you are considering trialling medication.

You may want to consider psychological assessment of ADHD for these reasons:

If you suspect other processing differences (like dyslexia for instance) then a psychological assessment can help tease things out when there are multiple possibilities.

If you want to explore your strengths, abilities and differences (but don’t necessarily want to trial medication).

How can I receive Identification for Autism:

Some psychiatrists or Paediatricians may aid you or your child in assessing and identifying Autism, but often, an evaluation with a Psychologist is a key part of the process. Ideally, the process is multidisciplinary, meaning two or more health professionals (e.g., Paediatricians, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, and Speech Pathologists) are involved in the identification process.

Can I see you for ongoing support/therapy appointments?

Therapy is available for adults on Monday evenings online, between 8.30 am and 3pm on Wednesdays, and between 8.30am and 3pm on Fridays.

How do I book appointments?

The first step is to book an initial appointment via our appointment page or email admin@wattlepsychology.com.au

Assessment Packages

The assessment process is charged well below the APS recommended hourly rate (plus GST). Which is currently recommended at $300 per hour for 2023-2024. The assessment packages reflect the hours that are generally required for the interviewing, assessment, and feedback. It also includes a fee for the administrative time needed for scoring and interpretation of assessments, and the hours needed for the report writing process.

Please note that we offer payment plans to reduce barriers to accessing psychological services and reports. However, we will require payment prior to the release of the reports.

Area 1 Developmental assessments.

[Please note that the assessment processes vary for each assessment. For children, assessments will need to be in person. For adults, teleconferencing is available for ADHD and Autism assessment, but not assessments that require a cognitive assessment as well (i.e. educational assessments, cognitive assessment).
